Welcome

Yellow House is that place where you can see day dawn in a faint tinge of pink, turning into a fiery mass of sky with the mountains silhouetted against it. It is that stoep from which you can see the late afternoon sun turn the ancient rocks to copper. It is that bed into which you can snuggle on a cold Karoo night and it is that pool in the almond orchard into which you can submerse yourself during summer. Yes, it’s that fire you can light while your dog and kids are playing on the lawn in front of you. It’s those gentle sounds as the tables are being set around the dam for dinner. It’s the smell of a wood fire winding lazily into the crisp winter air and the aromas wafting from the kitchen. Also, it’s that spot from where you can take off to ride your bike up the mountain, walk up the koppie or wander into town for breakfast and to explore the fascinating history of a quiet and quaint Karoo town.

Rooted in Karoo history, surrounded by nature and made for slow, memorable stays.

PRINCE ALBERT

Restaurant

Because our SLEEP is so good, we opened EAT, our restaurant. On glorious summer days and evenings, we set tables around the dam under the old pepper tree. In winter, two blazing fireplaces keep guests cosy indoors. The menu changes with the seasons and according to what the gardens provide. Two icons remain, though: Karoo Lamb Shank and exotic Nasi Goreng, a nod to our Dutch ancestry. Our love of the written word is everywhere: on our bookshelves, in the names of our dishes, and in the quotes on the walls. So too is the banter and energy from the open kitchen. Guests often say they feel as if they are visiting friends at home rather than dining out. But despite all the fun we have, we are serious about giving you the best possible food, service, and atmosphere. At lunchtime, we offer burgers, our famous pizzas, and seasonal salads. For dinner, you can expect the sublime, the surprising, and the sumptuous. Patrons often call to make dinner reservations before booking accommodation in Prince Albert. We secretly feel very flattered about that.

PRINCE ALBERT

The Pantry @ Yellow House

After stocking the SLEEP cottages with fresh fruit and flowers, and filling the EAT kitchen, the Karoo keeps giving. Enter The Pantry. The idea is simple: to make the most of everything the farm has to offer. Each harvest brings an abundance of fruit, vegetables, herbs, and other produce—often more than can be enjoyed fresh. Rather than letting that abundance go to waste, we preserve it, bottle it, bake it. We pair it with biltong. And lamb. We put it on a shelf, in a quiet corner, behind a creaky door. And anyone who wanders in has the chance to take home that one taste that brings them back to this place.
